Notes for Your Pet's General Health & Wellness
Your veterinarian only sees your companion once a year. Since you are
with them every day, it is essential that you monitor their general health
status. Changes in appetite, coat quality, weight, stool, urination and
water consumption all may signify a health problem. Please don't hesitate
to contact us, our online vets or professional breeders for advise or
sometimes simple home remedies to try. However, report any serious health
or behaviour problems to your own veterinarian or, if you do not have
one, make an appointment with ours!
Pets should never be subjected to chemical cleaning
agents containing toxic ingredients such as didecyl dimethyl ammonium
chloride. When cleaning floors, wait until absolutely dry and a rinse
with warm water and vinegar. A check of the toxicity of chemicals can
be checked via the internet. The best non- toxic cleaning products are
natural orange oil base or the pink organic cleaning solutions, both available
online.
What does 'Holistic' mean?
Holistic simply put means entirely, of a whole, used by pet foods as natural
- wholesome with all the ingredients being digestible & nutritious!
For example:

Brown rice instead of brewers (white) rice which is just filler.
Brown rice is a complex carb which is digestible and not just starch! |

No ground corn - ground corn is not very digestible even though grinding corn does help pets digest it. Corn gluten meal, which is the protein finnings of corn, is digestible however some cats & dogs are allergic to the proteins or carbs contained in corn! |

No by-products which in themselves are fine (except for beaks feathers
etc) however the rendering with chemicals so they cannot be used for
humans can leave residues! |

No Meat meal or bone meal - What MEAT - dead roadside animals, diseased
cattle, and even companion animals which some rendering plants in
the Industry just recently have said they will stop rendering dead

Why should I try "another food"?
Happy Paws was previously a member of the Canadian Veterinary Medical
Assoc. and our products are still listed in their material and our plant
in Chiliwack is still inspected by their officials and the Canadian Food
Inspection Agency for veterinarian certification for shipping across borders
& abroad!
How does Happy Paws
differ from other "premium foods"?
Happy Paws is Fresh & Natural - made & delivered directly to our
distributors - naturally preserved with Vit E & Vit C with no artificial
colours, flavours or chemical additives!
At Happy Paws we only use Top
Grade chicken, BC fish meal (fresh ocean fish) and 100% New Zealand free
range Lamb-meat taken off after people cuts taken, which is then cooked
into meal - No by-products!
We then add:

We all know fats or oil can go bad.
How does Happy Paws prevent this?
Happy Paws uses Vitamin E and vitamin C, nature's antioxidant.
Vitamin E occurs naturally in plant oils to protect against oxidation
and protect the original flavour, aroma and colour of our fresh meats.
Vitamin C occurs in the natural form of citric acid.
Are natural foods really better?
Many nutritionists & veterinarians are becoming increasingly concerned
with use of rendering practices of the pet food industry, including artificial
taste enhancers colours chemicals & denaturing products (fuel oil)
with no government regulations other than the associations mentioned!
Since Happy Paws pet foods don't contain chemical
preservatives, what is the shelf life?
We recommend that pet foods be consumed as soon as possible after cooking,
although our dry food maintains its nutritional value and taste for up
to 18 months unopened-after opening should be kept cool & dry - eaten
within 6 months for best freshness! Watch for preservatives such as Ethoxyquin,
BhA or BHT as they are chemicals and from documents available - with daily
use my have serious health effects!
Aren't Natural / Holistic pet foods more
expensive than grocery brands?
On the shelf - yes. On a cost per serving basis - no! On providing optimum
nutrition for health, longevity and performance - no! no! Premium natural
pet foods contain high quality, nutrient dense ingredients that promote
superior digestibility. This means that the animal will need to consume
less to receive the same, or better nutrition. There is also less clean-up.
What about puppy, kitten senior diet
formulas?
These formulas are fine to feed - read the labels for best ingredients,
however, our formula is high energy, high density nutrition which can
be fed to all stages of your pets lives, coming within the protein levels
recommended by the veterinary nutritionist at the CVMA (documents available
by request).
As for the diet formulas which the companies normally lower the fat content,
ours has 14% which is nutritionally correct for both. In effect this starves
the pet and by customer feedback usually does not work - they will only
eat more! Our high content meat, fish and brown rice formulas keeps them
satisfied longer. They need and generally eat less, and their weight should
regulate itself - and there is less stool!!
How do I know which pet food is best Natural-Holistic
or other brands?
Always - Always read the LABELS! Happy Paws always uses the best quality,
freshest ingredients available, as stated! Only New Zealand free range
Lamb (no steroids etc) BC Chicken & Fish (ocean fish) - with BC vegetables
& cranberries - Alberta grains organic flax & spelt with natural
sea salt & yucca from the plants!
